MBSR

Mindful Based Stress Reduction

MBSR is a blend of meditation, body awareness, and yoga: learning through practice and studying how your body handles (and can resolve) stress neurologically.

MBSR is highly respected in the medical community, and has been shown to be effective at helping participants with a wide variety of needs, goals and physical conditions such as dealing with pain, anxiety and other symptoms. MBSR teaches skills to reduce physical and emotional stress, enhancing day-to-day well-being.

Created in the late 1970’s by Jon Kabat-Zinn of UMass Medical Center, MBSR is an 8-week, 9-session curriculum based on systematic and intensive training in mindfulness practices, by providing a foundation for cultivating positive health behaviors and psychological and emotional resilience. A primary aim is to give participants the capacity to meet the challenges arising from medical and psychological conditions as well as the stress of everyday lives.
